In British Columbia, our health care system is publicly administered by the provincial government – meaning all residents have access to the medical care they need.

Eight public health authorities work together to deliver services tailored to the unique needs of communities across the province, from urban centers to remote or rural regions, and everywhere in between. Our health system is structured to reflect and celebrate the diversity of our province.

Five of our health authorities are regionally based and provide services to a specific geographic area. We also have a provincial health authority that delivers provincial programs and specialized services, a faith-based health care provider, and the First Nations Health Authority, which is focused on improving the health and health outcomes for First Nations peoples across the province.
